Learning Goals: Don't Teach Math Without Them

Learning goals are the hub of your sanity in homeschooling.

Essentially, a learning goal is a description of what you hope a learner demonstrates after the learning experience.

For you to enjoy homeschooling from the get-go and continuing loving it, you need to be clear about your learning goals. If you are not clear about your goals for learning, you will most likely struggle to continue when lessons gets difficult.

To develop homeschool learning goals, think about your children as adults. What qualities do you hope they posess

academically

practically

spiritually

relationally?

Then, use this vision of your adult children to craft your learning goals: the daily actions that you believe will lead them to these qualities.

I shared some specific examples on writing and using learning goals with math in episode 5 of The Homeschool Doc Podcast.
