Client Testimonials

Nina was very thorough with our portfolio evaluation. She took time to discuss the samples of work with my son and made him feel comfortable and at ease. She also was willing to offer suggestions and coaching to help us meet our homeschool goals as well.

-Catie

I cannot recommend Nina highly enough for her homeschool reviews. She made both my children and myself feel at ease when discussing our past homeschool year. Sometimes it's easy to feel we don't do enough as homeschool moms, and Nina is so encouraging. She will wipe those fears away! My kids felt very comfortable with her. She excels at connecting with all personality types! Very thankful for her involvement in our homeschool journey.

What is a portfolio evaluation?

A portfolio evaluation is the review of a collection of work samples from your homeschool year. This collection does not have to be exhaustive...just enough to show progress.

For example:

3 samples from each major area of study (e.g. math, language arts, history, science, etc.)

Think about showing progress like:

Sample 1 shows the student's ability at the beginning of the year.

Sample 2 shows the student's ability in the middle of the year.

Sample 3 shows the student's ability at the end of the year.

What is a standardized test evaluation?

A standardized test is an assessment designed to test many learners through similar questions and scoring procedures. Some educational experiences require a standardized test.

The test I administer is Wide Range Achievement Test (WRAT5).

The WRAT 5 is an approved test for the Step Up for Student Scholarship annual assessment requirement.

FAQs

What happens after I book a portfolio evaluation appointment?

You will be sent to my scheduling page to select a day and time for your portfolio evaluation.

Once you select your appointment, you will complete a form with some questions about your homeschool year.

Reminders for how to prepare and submit your portfolio samples are also included in the booking process.

If you are scheduling an appointment for more than one child, you would just repeat the process for each child.

What happens during the portfolio evaluation?

During the evaluation, I will spend time talking with the student--using the work samples as conversation starters. To prepare, parents can talk through the work samples with the student. Focus on the student being able to explain what each work sample is and what he/she learned. I will also spend time talking with the parent to understand his/her assessment of the student's progress.

What happens during a standardized test evaluation

I will spend time explaining the test sections and procedures. I will also take time to answer questions before beginning the test. The test I administer is called the WRAT 5. It focuses on a student's ability in language arts and math.

During the test, I will sit with the student to explain each section and guide him/her through submitting responses in the appropriate spaces. Some responses will be oral and some will be hand written.
